Description

I have a few off the beaten track globulars on my list of imaging options for 2024. Here, for example, is a recent image I captured of NGC 6426, The core of the 11th magnitude cluster is only about 3 arc minutes across, with some cluster members extending further out another arc minute or so. Unfortunately, some of the fainter outer haze is lost here to light pollution. Several star streams seem to making a run at escaping the cluster, which was one of the things that piqued my interest in the object. I suspect some stars further out may be associated with the cluster it looks like its shedding stars.

I reduced the image scale from the original image a bit from 0.34 to 0.5 arc seconds/pixel as the extra resolution was not really needed.

Some basic stats
Size: 3.68 x 3.68 arcmin (~68.4 ly across, at the distance below)
Magnitude: 11.00(V)
Distance: 67,668±15,921.9 ly
Abs Mag=-5.46
